Sports betting can be entertaining when done within your means. For some it can become a serious problem. This page explains our commitment, the warning signs to watch for, and where to get help.
Our commitment
GameGrid is a research tool. We surface statistics; we do not run a sportsbook. Even so, we recognize the role research tools play in informed gambling decisions and we’re committed to providing information that helps users gamble responsibly — never to encourage betting beyond what users can afford.
Age requirements
You must be at least 18 years old to use GameGrid (21+ in some U.S. states and other jurisdictions). You are responsible for ensuring that your use of sports research is legal where you live. If you are unsure, consult your local gaming commission or regulator.
Warning signs of problem gambling
Gambling becomes a problem when it stops being recreational. Common warning signs include:
- Spending more than you can afford to lose.
- Chasing losses with bigger bets to win back what you've already lost.
- Hiding gambling activity, lying about it, or feeling shame about it.
- Borrowing money to gamble, or selling possessions to fund bets.
- Using gambling to escape stress, anxiety, or depression.
- Neglecting work, family, or relationships because of gambling.
- Feeling restless or irritable when trying to cut back.
- Failing repeatedly to control or stop gambling.
If you recognize one or more of these in yourself or someone close to you, take action. Talking to a counselor or calling a helpline is a strong first step — and it’s free and confidential.
Self-help resources
The following organizations provide free, confidential support for problem gambling:
United States:
- National Council on Problem Gambling — 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537), 24/7 confidential helpline. ncpgambling.org
- Gamblers Anonymous — peer support meetings nationwide. gamblersanonymous.org
- SAMHSA National Helpline — 1-800-662-HELP (4357), substance use and mental health support, 24/7 confidential.
United Kingdom:
- BeGambleAware — 0808 8020 133 (24/7) and live chat at begambleaware.org
- GamCare — 0808 8020 133 and gamcare.org.uk
Other countries: the International Center for Responsible Gaming maintains a directory of national helplines at icrg.org.
Self-exclusion tools
Most regulated sportsbooks offer self-exclusion programs that let you voluntarily ban yourself for a set period (30 days, 6 months, 1 year, or permanent). If you’re struggling, contact your sportsbook’s support team and ask about self-exclusion. State gaming commissions also maintain centralized exclusion lists.
Tools to stay in control
- Set a budget you can afford to lose, and stop when you hit it.
- Set a time limit per session and use a timer.
- Track your bets and outcomes — awareness reduces emotional decisions.
- Take regular breaks. Don't bet when tired, drunk, or upset.
- Don't borrow money to gamble.
- Treat winnings as a bonus, not a reliable income source.
GameGrid is research, not gambling
GameGrid does not accept bets, hold customer funds, or operate as a sportsbook. Our signals, edges, and probabilities are mathematical outputs based on historical data — they are NOT predictions or guarantees. Past performance does not predict future outcomes. The decision to place a bet, where to place it, and how much to wager is entirely yours, and you bear full responsibility for that decision.
